ARtsTEach at Ella Austin Community Center

Dear Ms. Rodriguez,

This card says so much – courage is what our student population requires – along with resiliency. Certainly when Susan Oaks comes to Ella Austin Community Center, she encourages our kids to take the risk to create something uniquely theirs with an abundance and wide variety of materials. As well, with each visit she has brought me a child and had given them a compliment about their behavior – “Mrs. Lovett, I want you to know _____ has used their best manners all day and came to me to tell me how grateful they are for the opportunity to make something special to take home.” She understands that our kids need both great modeling and recognition beyond their artistic achievements.

We have enjoyed our collaboration with ARtsTEach and Susan Oaks. Your generosity assists the beginning strands of changes in self-image and provides new, wonderful expressions of who they are. Happy New Year! And I hope 2015 will allow us to continue this wonderful relationship.

With much gratitude,
Mary Ann Lovett

ARTS San Antonio Benefits Student Musicians

ARTS SA has special agreements with some community groups and takes advantage of unsold tickets to invite community members from groups to join ARTS SA at performances.

Matthew, a student musician from East Central Jazz Band in East Central ISD, received tickets to Arturo Sandoval in Concert.

He wrote about his experience “Thank you for the tickets to the Arturo Sandoval concert. The experience was once in a lifetime. Arturo is one of my idols. I play lead trumpet in two jazz bands and the concert just influenced me to practice more and to become a better musician. Thanks again.”

ARTS San Antonio Performances

They present the highest quality artists and are engaging the widest possible part of the community, often by taking iconic work and making it accessible; the Joffrey Ballet’s “Rite of Spring” was an incredibly exciting project and the panel was very taken with the exciting opportunity they offered their audience to dance with the Joffrey dancers.

ARTS SA’s ARtsTEach Arts-education Curriculum in Public Schools

For the last 10 years the ARtsTEach artists have done an incredible job of enriching, engaging and inspiring the students at Gregorio Esparza Elementary during our annual Fine Arts Day.

The artists provide outstanding workshops that have a direct correlation to the curriculum. In addition, the hands-on teaching empowers students to create, solve, predict and invent, all of which are skills needed for the development of each child.

It goes without saying; I am indebted to the ARTS San Antonio ARtsTEach program, Ms. Delia Rodriguez and the artists for their commitment to a top quality program.

A program that believes that art is a major component in the education of the total child.
